Superstar Rajinikanth recently turned 69 years old in 2019, but there is no stopping him. Even at this age, the actor is ruling the roost with his films. His latest release Darbar, directed by AR Murugadoss hit the theatres on January 9 and is running successfully in theatres.
According to trade reports, the box office collection of Darbar will soon touch the Rs 100 crore-mark in Tamil Nadu. Going by the reports, the film seems to have earned nearly Rs 30 crore on its third day (January 11) across the state.
Rajinikanth commands a huge fan following that transcends borders and generations. His films never fail to prove its worth in the international market. Reportedly, the film has comfortably raked in $1 million (Rs 7.09 crore) in just two days in the US.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to Twitter to share the happy news and stated that Darbar is Rajinikanth’s 9th movie to have crossed the $1 million-mark. “#Darbar 9th $1 Million movie for #Superstar @rajinikanth in #USA,” he posted on his page.
Apart from the US, Darbar is also doing well at the box office in New Zealand. “#NewZealand BO – Total Gross: By Sat, Jan 11th..#Darbar – NZ$43,770 (3 Days) #SarileruNeekevvaru – NZ$19,531 (1 Day),” Ramesh Bala shared on his social networking page.
Darbar is a cop thriller that follows the story of commissioner Aaditya Arunasalam who is on a mission to end the drug menace in the city of Mumbai. The film has been receiving mixed reviews from the critics and audience.
